stood up…
relationships
So I have until now been pretty lucky with regards to not being stood up. It might be because I don’t date much- that helps. Well Saturday I broke my streak, or I guess someone- specifically a girl named Jackie- broke it for me. Approximately 2.3 hours before our scheduled date, I get a text message that she’s sick. My first thought: bitch had better be dying. I want to see on the 6:00 news that she has contracted some rare form of an African virus which is transmitted from cobras to sheep (with a few layovers on an elephant or two) to humans. If by Monday, she is not dying in the ER or in the waiting room of one, I am going to have to take a lesson or two from a postal worker, borrow an AK-47 from a storm trooper, and take out a small village. I suppressed my initial instinct though and sent a reply asking if she was okay. Never heard back. Yeah, we all know what that means- she met someone better. Perhaps someone who doesn’t instinctively want to destroy small villages when they’re stood up. Whatever.
Now, a little background. Last time, we went out, I was less than chivalrous. Specifically, I downed a $60 bottle of wine on her tab, made a drunken pass at her, and then suggested that I thought she’d be easier (beat that, frat boy). So anyway, this time round, I wanted to show her a nice time. I made dinner reservations at a restaurant here in New York and then bought tickets to see Frost/ Nixon (her choice not mine). So when she stood me up, I called up one of my friends and took her out on a very romantic date. I merely insisted that she let me call her “Jackie” all night and cop a feel with the goodnight kiss. She took it like a sport…
